The bars of Riverhead drew people from the East End and beyond for the inaugural Oktoberfest pub crawl on Sunday.

The event wasn’t as well attended as the recent Santacon pub crawl or the St. Patrick’s Day-themed March of the Leprechauns (exact attendance numbers for Oktoberfest were not immediately available). And there were also far fewer people donning lederhosen on Sunday then there were wearing red suits or green T-shirts for the previous events. Still, it was a way to liven up downtown on what would likely be an otherwise sleepy Sunday.

“We’ve been the Santacon, we’ve been to the Leprechaun, we’ve been to all the cons. We wanted to keep it going,” said Riverhead native Kelly Zilnicki. “[These events] bring tons of people to Riverhead. I think they’re great.”

Dawn Vasquez of Medford learned of the event while visiting the Riverhead Country Fair the previous weekend and brought her husband, sister and cousin down to Joe’s Garage and Grill for another dose of the town.

A small business owner, Vasquez said she appreciated how these events support the community.

“I feel like I’m home when I’m here,” said Vasquez, who owns Setauket Frame Shop in East Setauket. “It’s a great community.
