We here at northforker look forward to Long Island Restaurant Week with the same anticipation of a kid counting down until Christmas.

That’s because it’s a chance to support local businesses, save some money and experience something great.

The $27.95 prix fixe deals run from Sunday, Nov. 1, to Sunday, Nov. 8, at participating restaurants, with the exception of Saturday, when some restaurants will only offer the deal until 7 p.m.

Visit LongIslandRestaurantWeek.com for a complete list of participating restaurants across the East End, Suffolk and Nassau counties.

Here are our five picks for a night out on the North Fork.

North Fork Table and Inn
Main Road, Souhold (631) 765-0177

At a restaurant that offers a $150 chef tasting menu — which might not be in the budget for a lot of diners — a $27.95 prix-fixe menu is an attractive alternative. Especially while visiting one of the best eateries around.

The first night of restaurant week is also when new chef de cuisine Stephan Bogardus, who previously held the position from 2011 to 2013, will make his debut.

NOFOTI will also offer prix-fixe lunch on Saturday, Nov. 7, and Sunday, Nov. 8.

We’ve eaten here during several restaurant weeks over the years and are always blown away by the quality. We most recently visited during Hamptons Restaurant Week last spring and vividly remember the delicious meal capped off with chef Claudia Fleming’s outstanding rhubarb shortcake.

Caci North Fork
56125 Main Road, Southold (631) 765-4383

If you are in the mood for authentic Italian, this is the place.

The restaurant week menu for this eatery is available online. The pumpkin soup with sage and pancetta and grilled salmon with grape tomato confit and lemon basil pesto are calling our names.

La Plage
131 Creek Road, Wading River (631) 744-9200

La Plage has long been a special occasion dining spot for us. With a secluded location and views of the Long Island Sound, it’s no wonder The New York Times once called it the most romantic restaurant on Long Island. And a prix- fixe menu is a great way to enjoy the experience without the full price tag.

The wine list is long and the cocktails are fun and tasty. A restaurant week menu has not yet been posted, but we have always been fans of chef Wayne Wadington’s fall offerings.

Bistro 72
1830 W. Main Street, Riverhead (631) 369-3325

We always appreciate choices on a prix-fixe menu, and Bistro 72 is offering three or four options each for appetizers, entrees and desserts. We’re happy to see chef James Junk’s chickpea-encrusted chicken milanese on the list, which is one of our favorites.

They are also offering yummy Long Island wine pairings for an additional fee.

Jedediah Hawkins Inn
400 S. Jamesport Ave., Jamesport (631) 722-2900

The Jed offers one of the most beautiful dining backdrops on the entire North Fork. And from the sound of the restaurant week menu, which features items like cod cakes with shallot vin blanch and argula, and short ribs with root veggies, roasted parsnips and bacon lardons, it is sure to provide a delicious meal.

It’s also offering $27.95 bottles of Macari Vineyards 2012 Estate Merlot and Waters Crest Winery 2013 Reserve Chardonnay.
