The Stirling Historical Society will hold its second annual gala at Hanff’s Boatyard in Greenport next Saturday, Oct.  3.

The historical society is housed inside the historic Ireland House Museum at 319 Main Street, which was built in the early 1830s.

Funds from the event support the historical society’s ongoing efforts to establish the Berger House Archive Center as a research resource for the public.

“We started developing our archive center in a house that is near our historical society,” said historical society president Gail Horton. “We hold the gala at the historic Hanff’s Boatyard, which is still a working boatyard. In fact, they just had a launch there recently.”

The event will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. on the Hanff Boatyard lawn, which overlooks Stirling Creek.

There will be a silent art auction of vintage wooden buoys, which have been painted by local artists, plus a 50/50 raffle.

Local musician Grant Werner will perform and Southold Fish Market will provide a raw bar. The event will also include local wine and Greenport Harbor Brewing Co. beers.

“Last year was our first year and it was very successful,” Horton said. “As many as 100 people attended.”

Tickets are $75 and can be purchased here. They will also be available for purchase from historical society members and at the Ireland House Museum.
