Oyster lovers unite.

This Sunday, Oct. 4th is Sparkling Pointe Winery’s 4th annual Local Oyster Showcase.

The event spotlights local oyster farmers as local chefs use their oysters in delicious recipes. Along with the shellfish extravaganza, guests can also sample Sparkling Pointe wines and listen to live jazz.

“The oysters are in season now, which is nice,” said Sparkling Pointe marketing coordinator Kelsey Cheslock.  “And they’re just at the beginning of their season, which is even better.”

Guests will  sample oysters from three local oyster farms. They will include oysters from Ketcham’s Seafarm, which produces Peconic Gold oysters in Peconic Bay, Harvest Moon Shellfish which produces the Eastern 0yster, also in Peconic Bay and Noank Agriculture Cooperative, which grow Peconic Pearl oysters in Southold Bay.

“The premise of the event is to have the oysters served raw on the halfshell by their farmer,” Cheslock added. “Then the farmers are also going to pair up with one or two of the restaurants that we are showcasing as well.”

Guests will also sample the oysters in delectable dishes made by chefs from The Frisky Oyster, Blue Canoe, First + South, A Lure & A Mano and The Kitchen by Waterside Caterers.

“It’s a chance for all of our guests; locals, Long Islanders and guests from New York City to really connect with our local community as well as our local oyster farmers and local chefs after this very busy season,” Cheslock said.

The oyster showcase runs from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday.  Tickets and information are available at www.sparklingpointe.com or by calling (631) 765-0200.

Pre-sale tickets are $40 per person and include a dozen oysters, a glass of Sparkling Pointe wine and reserved seating, according to  Cheslock.

“There is no limit to tickets [sold[, we’ll just keep going through oysters and going through wine,” she said.

Sparkling Pointe Winery is located at 39750 County Road 48 in Southold.
