The North Fork will be on full display from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today, Sept. 9, as “New York Farm Day” is observed in Washington, D.C. The event showcases a variety of farm products from all over the state to Washington’s biggest powerbrokers.

“New York Farm Day” has become one of the most popular annual events on Capitol Hill since its inception in 2002, when it was hosted by then-Sen. Hillary Clinton. The day is meant to remind Congress, the administration and other Washington legislators how important agriculture is to New York State.

Hosted by Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand in the Senator Kennedy Caucus Room, as many as 500 people have attended in the past. Tonight’s attendees will include other senators, the New York Congressional delegation from the House of Representatives, legislative chiefs of staff and members of the Washington media.

“Farm Day is a unique and important opportunity for us to showcase the best of what New York’s farmers and producers have to offer. Every year we bring New York to Washington, D.C., and I am thrilled that this has become such an anticipated event on the Congressional calendar,” Sen. Gillibrand, New York State’s first member of the Senate Agriculture Committee in nearly four decades, said in a statement.

Right now, New York State wines, craft beverages, farm-fresh products and seafood are on their way to the nation’s capitol for the event.

The menu will include starters made with grapes from Channing Daughters Winery. North Fork wines being served include Bedell Cellers, Harbes Family Farm & VineyardLieb Cellars, Macari Vineyards, Martha Clara Vineyards, McCall Wines, Osprey’s Dominion Vineyards, One Woman Wines & Vineyards, Paumanok Vineyards, Pellegrini Vineyards, Sannino Bella Vita Vineyard, and Wolffer Estate Vineyard.

A selection of New York City wines and spirits from will also be featured, including Brooklyn Oenology, Brooklyn Winery, and Kings County Distillery.

“New York’s farmers and producers are some of the best in the world,” Sen. Gillibrand said. “This is a great opportunity to spread the word even further about the quality of our produce.”
