Before the days get shorter and everyone settles back into the rhythm of school, there is one spot in Mattituck you should stop by for lunch.
If you have never been before, allow us to set the scene for you.
A tropical cocktail in your hand as you nibble on fish tacos while overlooking the deep blue Mattituck Inlet. A gentle breeze off the water rustling the straw of the tiki hut as nearby poolgoers enjoy a lazy afternoon.
It’s a nice way to make the most of the season’s end.
There is no separate lunch and dinner menu, so if you feel like a $39 filet mignon for lunch, then go for it. But if you are looking for something a tad lighter, we recommend the mahi mahi tacos served with a citrus salad ($18).
The portions were more than enough and the fish was fresh, but the standout of this dish was the jicama slaw. It will make you wonder why you don’t incorporate this juicy and under-utilized tuber, which kind of tastes like an apple, into more dishes.
We stopped by on a perfectly clear, sunny yet also quiet, day. The marina provides a serene backdrop that can make you feel like you are on vacation, even if it’s the middle of the workday.
Next to the restaurant is a saltwater pool for marina users (day passes are available, call (631) 298-4739). And the well-manicured grounds provide for a nice stroll after your meal.
But hurry, because who knows how many days are left to enjoy a scene like this on the North Fork.
Stong’s Water Club and Marina is located at 2255 Wickham Avenue in Mattituck. Pace’s Dockside is opens for lunch at noon Wednesday through Sunday. Call (631) 315-5252 for more information.
