Superstar music acts Beck, Pharrell Williams, Duran Duran and others will light up the North Fork during the two-day FOLD (Freak Out Let’s Dance) Festival this week.
The all-star event will be presented at Martha Clara Vineyards in Riverhead on Tuesday, Aug. 4, and Wednesday, Aug. 5, by Nile Rodgers Productions, which held a similar star-studded event at the vineyard in 2013.
The name of the festival comes from two of the biggest songs produced by Mr. Rodgers — “Freak Out,” a 1978 hit by his band Chic, and “Let’s Dance,” recorded by David Bowie in 1983. “I do festivals all the time and people told me they had never had a more pleasant time ever than on the North Fork — and I’m talking big-name agencies,” Mr. Rodgers, a Westport, Conn., resident who frequently boats to the North Fork told us last month. “The local food, the people, everything, so I thought to myself, Nile, let me build this and get it right.”
For some of the artists, the FOLD Festival will be their only stateside performance this season and for others its their first live show of 2015. For instance, it will be Mr. Williams’ only U.S. appearance this summer, sandwiched between a European tour and concerts in Asia and South Africa.[blankslate_pages id=”d53a0b4052a996″ type=”card” show_photo=”true” utm_content=””][/blankslate_pages]
And if that doesn’t convince you that this will be the East End’s premiere concert of the season, it will also be the first time the two most recent Grammy of the Year award-winning artists will perform together. Mr. Williams and Daft Punk won the award in 2014 for the Rodgers-produced album “Get Lucky” and Beck won in 2015 or his ninth studio album “Morning Phrase.”
Organizers expect 10,000 ticket holders to attend the concert both days.
