Paumanok Vineyards took home the Winery of the Year Award at the 2015 New York Wine and Food Classic marking the third year in a row a Long Island wine producer has won the coveted prize.

The Aquebogue vineyard also won “Best White Wine” for its 2014 semi-dry riesling.

“I am happy to congratulate the winners of today’s Governor’s Cup, and I encourage all New Yorkers to sample some of our state’s best food and beverages. You won’t be disappointed,” Gov. Andrew Cuomo said in a statement.

Twenty-two expert judges tasted the entries, which included 858 wines, 20 hard ciders and 32 spirits from across New York. Of the five “best of” winners, which are considered for the Governors Cup, only Paumanok was from Long Island. The Governor’s Cup, which is the top prize in the competition, went to Geneva’s Ventosa Vineyards.

The event, held in upstate Canandaigua, followed the first-ever Taste NY Culinary Tour

It has been quite the year for Paumanok Vineyards, which recently received some of the highest scores ever for Long Island wine in the most recent issue of the Wine Advocate.

Local double gold, or “Best of Class” awards, went to the following local vineyards: Best oaked chardonnay, McCall Wines 2013 Chardonnay Reserve; best medium-sweet riesling, Paumanok Vineyards 2014 Semi-Dry Riesling; best sauvignon blanc, Martha Clara Vineyards 2014 Sauvignon Blanc, Estate Reserve; best vinifera rosé, Osprey’s Dominion 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon; best merlot, Harbes Vineyards 2013 Hallock Lane Merlot; best pinot noir, Martha Clara Vineyards 2013 Pinot Noir, Reserve Estate; and best vinifera sparkling white, Sparkling Pointe 2005 Brut Seduction, Methode Champenoise.

Macari Vineyards in Mattituck won the Winery of the Year award in 2014 and McCall Wines in Cutchogue won in 2013.
