Enjoying fresh roasted pig, a local beer, raw shellfish and chunky blue cheese potato salad is one of our favorite ways to spend a summer Monday night in Greenport.
That’s why we officially declare Monday night pig roasts at First and South restaurant a northforker “Thing We Love.”
And we know we’re not the only ones because during Monday’s event, the first of the season, the restaurant sold out of pig.
For $30 guests get one pound of roasted pork, two salads, a piece of cornbread and a beer. New this year is the addition of a raw bar with oysters, clams and peel and eat shrimp. For the non pig-lovers, the restaurant offers its usual menu on Monday nights as well.
WEHM DJ Anthony Cafaor was there broadcasting from the restaurant and enjoying the fare.
“I don’t know what kind of fairy dust [owner] Sarah [Phillips] is sprinkling over everything now,” the morning show host said on the air Tuesday morning. “But everything just got taken up a notch.”

Greenport Harbor Brewing Co. was pouring on Monday night (we went for the summer ales) and the sides included a yummy blue cheese potato salad (the standout of the meal for us) and greens from KK’s The Farm.
And while the pig itself used to be on display on the outdoor patio, it will now stay in the kitchen to make room for more diners.
The pig roasts continue on Mondays at First and South through the summer. The raw bar opens at 4 p.m. and the pig roast starts at 5 p.m. Call (631) 333-2200 for more info.
