If you’ve come to the North Fork recently from points west and passed this construction site at the corner of Sound Avenue and Route 25A, you’re probably wondering what’s going on there. Don’t worry. We’re about to tell you.

According to the property owner Kenn Barra, about 25 retail locations will be opening up shop — he’s hoping by this fall. Barra, who also owns the abutting Inn & Spa at East Wind, said that a long winter put the project a little behind schedule.

Taking a page out of the book of Jehrico’s Milleridge Inn, the new Shoppes at East Wind will have a variety of retailers on site right next to the resort destination at the inn. Barra rattled off a list of the retailers coming to town recently.

Among them will be Rocky Point’s Prestano Bakery, The Crushed Olive, a cheese store, a florist, a bridal store, a holiday store, an ice cream parlor, a shoe store, a t-shirt shop, a pizza joint, a tea shop, a country store, a gift shop, and a place to paint and sip. Oh, and there will be an indoor carousel for birthday parties.

Not enough for you? There are still a few openings, Barra said, with a few more leases close to being signed.

“We’re trying to get it done as fast as we can,” he said last week. “Hopefully by early fall, we’ll be in good shape to get everybody in there.”

We’ll let you know more as we get closer.
