U-pick pumpkins? Check. U-pick apples? Yup, there is plenty of that on the North Fork, too. But U-pick flowers? Now that’s a fresh idea.

Saturday, May 2, marks the start of the East End’s first organic U-pick tulip festival at Garden of Eve Organic Farm and Market. Whether you’re making a bouquet for yourself or giving it as a gift, we think creating a beautiful arraignment of organic tulips is a great way to spend your weekend.

The event is the brainchild of the country’s only organic tulip provider, Eco Tulips. The festival was previously held in Brightwood, Va., but the company is bringing the event to Riverhead this year.

In preparation, Eco Tulips planted bulbs at Garden of Eve Organic Farm and Market in November. Now, a crop of roughly 30,000 pink, purple and even black organic tulips are yours for the picking.

In addition to being the destination of Long Island’s only U-pick organic tulip field, Garden of Eve also offers plenty of other things to do and see during your visit. There are farm animals, gardening workshops, a kids’ play area and a farm cafe with delicious organic lunches and snacks.

The U-pick tulip festival will take place every day from May 2 until May 24 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The cost is $4 per person for a day pass or $7 for a season pass. Kids 6 and under are free. Tulips are $1 per stem.

Garden of Eve Organic Farm and Market is located at 4558 Sound Ave., Riverhead.
