Beginning Friday, the local craft beer is being poured on all Cross Sound Ferry trips between Orient and New London and from New London to Block Island.
“We’re really excited to bring our beer into New England and what better way to do it than by boat?” asked brewery co-founder Rich Vandenburgh during a press event aboard the Cross Sound Ferry’s Cape Henlopen.
Ferry officials estimate about 1,000 pints per week of Greenport’s Harbor Ale will be served aboard ferry trips this summer (June through September) and the brewery’s other styles could be carried in the future.
Public affairs director Stan Mickus said that estimate is based on the volume of beer the ferry typically sells each summer season.
“And it could be more considering this is such a superior product,” he said with a grin.
Greenport’s recently released bottles are also sold in Connecticut through a partnership with F&F Distributors. Representatives of F&F, the Long Island Farm Bureau, Cross Sound Deli, and Kontokosta Winery joined the ferry and brewery officials at Friday’s announcement.
