Macari is one of 25 vineyards representing New York State wine region at the Boston Wine Expo.

Three North Fork vineyards will help represent New York State during the Boston Wine Expo this weekend.

Lieb Cellars, Jason’s Vineyard and Macari Vineyards are three of 25 New York wineries which will be on hand to help tout the state’s wine industry, which was named “Wine Region of the Year” in October 2014 by Wine Enthusiast.

This is the first time New York State will have its own pavilion at the expo, considered one of the largest wine-related events in the Northeast and one of the premier wine trade and consumer shows in the country.

The state’s attendance is another part of Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s ongoing Taste New York campaign that aims to bring New York produced farm-based beverages to a wider audience.

“This weekend, visitors to the Boston Wine Expo will be introduced to some of the finest wines in the world – which are grown and produced right here in New York State,” Gov. Cuomo said in a statement. “The Taste NY program is continuing to raise the profile of New York’s first-rate producers, and by participating in this event we’re introducing some of our State’s best wines to an entirely new audience.”

Leaders of the North Fork wine industry agreed.

“For us it is great to see the governor really getting behind the industry,” said Ami Opisso, Lieb Cellar’s general manager. “The truth is we are making world class wines in New York and it is just a matter of getting people to taste them. This is another avenue to do that.”

The three wineries will also be featured in a seminar given by Jim Trezise, President of the New York Wine and Grape Foundation, tittled “The New World of World Class Wines: New York.” The talk is intended to showcase a range of New York State wines, all of which have won gold medals at major wine competitions.

Long Island Wine Council president Steve Bate said the timing of the event is ideal for growing the industry’s reach in out of state markets. As of Jan. 1, Massachusetts is allowing wineries from out of state to ship directly to The Bay State.

“This is going to be quite impressive,” Bate said.

The Boston Wine Expo will take place at the Seaport Hotel and World Trade Center in Boston, Massachusetts on Feb. 14 and 15.
