Some of the better meals we’ve had on the North Fork are off the beaten path.

With a lot of popular restaurants on the North and Main roads and the well-traveled Love Lane and Front Street, sometimes you forget about the many gems on our side roads. One of those under-the-radar spots is the Red Booster Bistro on Depot Lane in Cutchogue.

Even on the North Fork where quaint establishments have become commonplace, this restaurant stands out. They have an eclectic entrée menu, an attractively priced brunch and a full-service bar.

We stopped in recently for lunch and enjoyed the BLT wrap ($15) on the “lighter fare” menu. You know what you’re going to get when you order a BLT, but a nice touch at the Red Rooster is that they grill the wrap and serve it with perfectly seasoned fries.

It’s comparable in flavor and price to a menu item you might find at two of our favorite lunch spots, Love Lane Kitchen and Farm Country Kitchen, but with less of a wait at this tucked away location.

Sit down and count all the rooster-themed antiques on the wall — we gave up at 238 — and have Gregory fix you a drink. We won’t tell the boss.
