Farm Country Kitchen, the hidden gem eatery located on the Peconic River in Riverhead, received a very favorable review from the New York Times this week.
The waterfront dining spot, known for its tasty menu offerings as well as the view, was rated “very good” by Times food critic Kurt Wenzel.
Very good is the second-highest grade in the Times’ five-point rating system.
“Farm Country Kitchen is worth the trip and the wait,” Wenzel wrote. “It puts out mostly very good (and occasionally excellent) food, at reasonable prices.”

Wenzel raved about the New Orleans sea scallops, a dinner menu item dusted with Cajun spices and served with guacamole.
“I have not had anything as good in recent memory,” Wenzel said. “It was a showstopper in all the right ways.”
He also enjoyed the eatery’s portobello mushroom stuffed with a sun-dried tomato hummus and fried artichoke hearts.
We wholeheartedly agree with Wenzel’s assessment of this standout dining spot, which we included in our list of favorite lunches of 2014.
This is the second time in recent months the Times has given high praise to a local eatery. The Grey Lady gave Petulant Wino in Aquebogue an excellent rating in August.
