Last year, Rich Daly elicited murmurs of “Wow” and “Awesome!” when he transformed a half-ton of ice into the image of Old Saint Nick at Sherwood House Vineyards in Jamesport.

This month, the Mastic Beach resident will do it again at the Main Road winery on Saturday, Dec. 20, from noon to 3 p.m. And this time, he’s going to use his saw to create an ice-cold replica of Santa’s sleigh, fleet of reindeer included.

“We had a lot of people asking about it; asking us to do it again,” said Sherwood House tasting room manager Kristen Hand. She added that visitors will be able to sit on the sculpture once it’s completed. “He definitely puts everybody in the holiday spirit.”

Last year, close to 200 people watched Daly, who is in the Guinness Book of World Records for “Fastest Time to Carve 60 Ice Sculptures,” create his Santa sculpture, Hand said. They’re hoping for a similar turnout this time.

“It’s an event that’s accessible for Sherwood followers along with their families,” she said. “It’s entertaining and different from what you normally see out here.”
