Greenport Village appears poised to open its ice skating rink this weekend, though the latest weather forecast may push the opening back to the following weekend.

“The forecast for warmer temperatures this week may delay the opening,” said village administrator Paul Pallas.

The decision could be made Friday, when the firmness of the ice is tested, he said. Since the last skating season, the village added a new compressor and skate racks. There’s a new office and the Zamboni has new tires. A shed and storage unit have also been installed.

“We’re completely ready to open,” Mr. Pallas said. “It’s just a matter of if the weather is ready.”

The Mitchell Park rink boasts waterfront views and is within walking distance of the village’s shops, restaurants and cafes. It’s open to the public Monday through Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for seniors and children under 18.

On weekends and holidays, the facility is open from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. During those times, admission is $10 for adults and $7 for seniors and children under 18. Skate rentals cost $5. Customers must leave a deposit in the form of a driver’s license, student ID card, credit card or a $10 cash deposit for each pair of skates.

Private beginners’ lessons are $15. Private rink rentals, birthday parties and season passes are also available. For more information, visit villageofgreenport.org.
