Respected New York wine writer and enthusiast Lenn Thompson has joined northforker.com as its new wine columnist.

His inaugural column will appear on Nov. 21.

Thompson, executive editor of the wine blog New York Cork Report and a digital and content marketing professional, will be writing and opining on Long Island wines, wineries and the regional industry.

His columns will appear opposite weeks of “The Oeno Files,” the long-running column by North Fork wine pioneer Louisa Hargrave.

“I’ve thought for some time now that I need to re-immerse myself in the Long Island wine community. Writing this column is going to push me to do that,” Thompson said. “I’m sure that I’ll write often about the best wines being made out here, but I also want to explore wineries and categories that I’ve not given enough attention to in recent years. I want to bring energy, enthusiasm and veracity to northforker’s wine coverage. There is a lot to love about Long Island wine. I hope that comes across in my writing.”

The former editor of the now-defunct Long Island Wine Gazette, Thompson’s works have appeared in several local publications including Edible East EndDan’s Papers and Hamptons.com. A Pittsburgh, Penn. native, Thompson moved to the region a decade ago and was soon impressed by the quality of Long Island’s wine.

“One of my missions in overseeing the northforker brand is to become an authority on the region’s wine industry. To do that, there needs to be a holistic approach to coverage — which means directing our attention to the wine itself. Too often stories have focused on what is going on in the tasting room or on the business side of the industry, which doesn’t do justice to the great wines being produced here,” said northforker editor Vera Chinese. “I think Lenn’s expertise will help us achieve that goal and elevate our coverage.”

Thompson lives in Miller Place with his wife Nena, son Jackson and daughter Anna.
