This week’s “Sunday Scene” comes to us from Bedell Cellars in Cutchogue.

Bedell winemaker Richard Olsen-Harbich and staff were hard at work pressing merlot, Long Island’s signature varietal, at the Cutchogue winery this week.

Juice from the red ripe grapes has a long journey before it becomes rich, complex wine like Bedell’s musée blend. By many accounts, 2014 is shaping up to be a banner year in terms of grape yield, but we will report more on that later this week.
