A great escape for those looking for a peaceful retreat, The Coffey House Bed and Breakfast is a house of history that enables relaxation.
Innkeepers Ellie and Rick Coffey spared no detail when they restored the 1886 East Marion farmhouse, once home to the keepers of Bug Lighthouse and their families. They purchased the property in 2002 and spent the next five years restoring and adding on to the original structure, using a contractor who perfectly matched the home’s original woodwork.
In 2008 they said the dream became a reality and The Coffey House Bed and Breakfast opened its doors.
Today guests can still get a feel for the area’s history not only in the inn’s architecture, but also through its decor. The Coffeys furnished the inn with heirlooms and antiques from local shops.
Of course there are modern amenities as well. The common areas are filled with the sound of acoustic music traveling via the inn’s built-in sound system, providing a relaxing ambience.
“The speakers are one of the best features we have,” Ms. Coffey said. “It is very soothing.”
The five-bedroom bed and breakfast is furnished with the warmth of antiques, wrought iron queen-sized beds, high quality plush comforters, fine linens and bathrobes.
All the rooms have en suite baths, plus other conveniences including central air conditioning and radiant heating, wireless Internet, cable and televisions with DVD players.
One room is located on the main floor for those who prefer fewer stairs.
Your three-course breakfast includes seasonal fruit, homemade granola, yogurt, freshly baked muffins and pastries. Plus other mainstays like juice, tea and coffee.
There is always a hot main course — such as quiche, waffles and omelets — prepared with locally grown produce when in season.
Many of the North Fork’s attractions are located within a 15-minute drive of The Coffey House including wineries, shopping and restaurants.
For outdoor lovers, the inn is centrally located near beaches, walking trails and is just a few steps away from Island’s End Golf Course.
When you return to the bed and breakfast you’ll be able to unwind in The Coffey House’s living room which is stocked with books, board games and puzzles. A special treat for guests is the inn’s downstairs recreation area furnished with oversized couches, a pool table, large flat-screen television and a snack and beverage area.
