The North Fork is in the midst of an unseasonable warm autumn, which means more time for outdoor dining.
Make the most of the clear skies and sunny days by picking up a to-go order from one of our best lunch spots and having your mid-day meal overlooking our waters.
Here are five places to grab lunch and eat your meal in a nearby park.
The Crazy Fork and the New Suffolk Waterfront
Seafood begs to be eaten with a waterfront view. Grab a flounder sandwich at The Crazy Fork in Mattituck and take a drive down New Suffolk Ave. to the waterfront. Sit at one of the picnic tables and enjoy the view of Cutchogue Harbor.
The Crazy Fork is located at 10560 Main Road in Mattituck
Farm Country Kitchen and George Lindgren Schmelzer Riverfront Park
While certainly the smallest “park” on the list, George Lindgren Schmelzer Park on West Main Street in Riverhead offers a picnic table and a serene view of the Peconic River. Located adjacent to Farm Country Kitchen, it’s a perfect place to enjoy a speciality panini and relax for a bit for someone looking to avoid the lunch crowd inside the restaurant. You could also stop in while kayaking the river.
Farm Country Kitchen is located at 513 West Main Street in Riverhead
Fork & Anchor and Orient Beach State Park
Grab a green goddess chicken salad sandwich from Fork & Anchor in East Marion, then take Route 25 all the way to end to enjoy all that Orient Beach State Park has to offer. Let the little ones play on the park’s playground as you watch the water lap against the shore.
The distance between the two locations is about eight miles. The parking fee at the park is $8 on weekends and holidays until October 7. Visit the park’s website for more info.
Fork and Anchor is located at 8955 Main Road in East Marion.
Wednesday’s Table and Triangle Park
Wednesday’s Tables offers fresh, specialty signature items like their Bahn Mi or their mushroom truffled grilled cheese, every day except for Wednesday (the owners explain why on their website). Take lunch to go and eat it in Southold’s Triangle Park.
The park is located on the north side of Route 25 as you travel east, just before downtown Southold. it offers free parking and is open to the general public.

Bruce’s Cheese Emporium and Mitchell Park
Order a sandwich and some fancy cheese from Bruce’s Cheese Emporium and enjoy an impromptu picnic in Greenport’s Mitchell Park. It’s a great place to lay down a blanket and people watch. Let the kids tire themselves out by running around and then take them for a spin on the Greenport Carousel.
