After months of preparation, Avo Mexican Grill in Wading River will open its doors tomorrow, Oct. 9, at 11 a.m., the restaurant’s co-owners confirmed this week.

“Excited isn’t even the word,” said co-owner Tara Dietz of Baiting Hollow. “It’s surreal that we’re opening.”

The 16-seat restaurant, which is also co-owned by Tara Dietz’s husband, Steven, and Joe Goller and Larissa Figari Goller of Northport, is located across the street from the King Kullen shopping center on Route 25A. It offers counter service and takeout.

Avo’s menu, which incorporates fresh, seasonal vegetables from Andrew’s Family Farm in Wading River, is built around tacos, burritos, quesadillas, nachos, soups and salads — all of which are made in-house using high-quality ingredients like pulled pork with pineapple and braised organic chicken, Goller said.

“We’re spending a little bit more money but we think in the long run people are getting a better and healthier product,” Steven Dietz added.

The restaurant’s menu also features “avos,” which contain half an avocado and a filling of your choice, like quinoa, mushrooms and almonds, tuna, or corn and black bean salad.

“I feel like there are so many benefits to avocado, so we incorporated them into the menu,” Figari Goller said. In fact, the first word of the restaurant’s name is a nod to the heart-healthy fruit.

The 1,600-square-foot eatery features colorful, rustic details inside and also has a salsa bar. Avo will sell Mexican beer and homemade sangria when its beer and wine license is approved in about two weeks, Goller said.

The co-owners said plans for the restaurant have been underway for around a year. Now they are more than prepared to finally make their debut.

“The doors are ready to bust open,” Figari Goller said.

Avo Mexican Grill on Route 25A in Wading River is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, go to avogrill.com.
