This week’s Sunday Scene comes to us from Surrey Lane Vineyard Orchard Farm in Southold.

It is only the first week of September, but farmers have already started gathering the grapes that will soon become the region’s award-winning wines.

Owned by former Penguin Group (Now Penguin Random House) CEO David Shanks, Surrey Lane grows grapes which are sold to Long Island wineries. Here, the workers harvest pinot noir grapes for sparkling wine.

The 2014 harvest will be in full swing within the coming weeks and grape growers say the outlook is promising.
