Greenport Harbor Brewing Co. will unveil a brand new beer in tribute to the Long Beach Bar “Bug Light” Lighthouse in time for the Greenport Maritime Festival.

Bug Light Ale, a German-stlye kolsch made with lager yeast, will debut at A Land & Sea Greenport Gala on Friday, Sept. 19.

“We expect it to be a nice, approachable, really easy drinking beer,” said brewery co-owner Rich Vandenburgh. “It has a straw yellow hue to it and a noticeable hoppiness, but not an extreme hoppiness. ”

The brewery is making 60 kegs of the beer, which will be delivered to restaurants on Sept. 19 and served that night at the Land & Sea Greenport Gala, the opening party of the Greenport Maritime Festival.

“It’s going to be the freshest beer you have this month,” Vandenburgh said.

A portion of its sales will go to the East End Seaport Museum & Marine Foundation, the festival’s primary beneficiary.

The gala kicks off at 6 p.m., on the harbor front in Greenport. Tickets, which are $75 each, can be purchased here.
