We at northforker already wrote about the opening of Lombardi’s Love Lane Market this week, but we just had to go back to tell our readers what we think of the food.

We are certainly glad we did.

In this week’s edition of “What’s for lunch?” we recommend the chicken Caprese sandwich.

Extra virgin olive oil is drizzled on fresh bread with marinated grilled chicken breast, fresh mozzarella, Roma plum tomatoes and basil and melted in a panini press($8.99).

We also added a rice ball to our order ($2.99), which made lunch big enough to share.

I couldn’t stop eating it long after I was full.

The Lombardi family’s four decades of experience is reflected in the taste and quality. We’re told the bread is made in-house and it is absolutely perfect.

The market is a welcome addition to Mattituck and I’m sure we’ll be frequent visitors, buying butcher cuts, specialty cheeses and personal pizzas.

Lombardi’s Love Lane Market is located at 170 Love Lane in Mattituck.

“What’s for lunch?” is a weekly column highlighting great mid-day meals on the North Fork. Send suggestions to [email protected].
