A piece of Naples, Italy will meet the North Fork when Lombardi’s Market at Love Lane opens its doors at 9 a.m. on Wednesday.

The upscale Italian market will sell personal pizzas, paninins, sandwiches, pastas, fresh olives and cheese among its offerings.

“We’ve always wanted to come out here,” said Jerry Lombardi, whose family opened the first Lombardi’s market in 1976. “We always talked about coming to the East End and this was the perfect spot.”

The eatery, located in the same spot that housed the former Love Lane Market, will offer specials on Lombardi’s signature sauces, made from Lombardi matriarch Michelle Lombardi’s recipes.

“This has been in the family for years,” said the Italian-born Jerry Lombardi, 54, of Wading River. Lombardi and his brother immigrated from Avellino, a city on the outskirts of Naples, in 1968.

Wicker baskets hung from the ceiling and North Fork themed hangings adorned the walls as the staff hurried to stock the eatery for its soft opening.

“We redesigned some things, but it’s always been a beautiful store,” Lombardi said.

The Lombardi family started more than three decades ago with a pizza parlor business in Holbrook and later expanded into Lombardi’s MarketVilla Lombardi’s catering hall and Mamma Lombardi’s, all in Holbrook, Lombardi’s On The Sound in Port Jefferson and Lombardi’s On The Bay in Patchogue.

This is their first North Fork location.

Lombardi’s Market at Love Lane is located 170 Love Lane in Mattituck and can be reached at 631-298-9500.
