Croteaux Vineyards, the only all-rosé winery in America, sold out of its 2013 vintage by mid-August, a sign of the pink wine’s rising popularity on the East End.

“We were up 30 to 40 percent every day over this time last year,” Croteaux Vineyards owner Michael Croteau told northforker. “People are discovering it’s the wine to drink in the summer.”

Croteau closed the Southold tasting room and garden Aug. 15. Croteau said the vineyard has traditionally stayed open until October. It will reopen in March with the release of the 2014 vintages.

Croteaux sold 2,500 cases in 2014, up from about 2,300 in 2013.

“The wines are very drinkable,” Croteau said of rosé’s appeal. “It doesn’t have sulfites or sulfur like other wines.”

The trend seems to be spreading across the East End. The New York Post reported on Wednesday that the Hamptons is experiencing a rosé crisis, as Wolffer Estate Vineyards has run out of its 2013 Summer in a Bottle, Grandioso Rosé and their 2010 Noblesse Oblige Sparkling Rosé. Vogue declared rosé the “drink of summer” in May and export sales from Provence, France, were 40 percent higher in 2013 than the previous year, according to the Wall Street Journal.

Lieb Cellars began selling rosé, which is offered under its Bridge Lane label, and chardonnay and merlot by the keg as this summer. It sold more pink wine that way than it did red or white, said Lieb general manager Ami Opisso.

“We see growth in rosé sales every summer with no exception,” said Opisso. “The quality seems to be elevating across the board. You see more serious wine drinkers are starting to enjoy it.”

Lieb also offers rosé by the box for $46.

Though Lieb’s East Hampton tasting room ran out last weekend, Opisso said it will be restocked by Labor Day weekend.

“We do have enough inventory to last us through fall,” she said.

Plenty of North Fork wineries are fully stocked as well.

Palmer Vineyards in Aquebogue still has its Sunset Rosé and Bedell Cellars told Business Insider their Cutchogue tasting room has a full rosé supply.
