For the peckish eater looking for a light snack, this Main Road eatery is not the place.

In this week’s edition of What’s For Lunch? we recommend Wayside Market in Southold.

Our pick is the Philly cheesesteak served on a roll ($7.99) or hero ($10.99). Sliced roast beef is grilled with onions and topped with mozzarella, American cheese and ketchup.

Be sure to bring your appetite because the heaping portions ensure nobody leaves this place wanting more.

“We make the sandwich for the working man,” said owner P.T. Rutigliano. “They know they are going to be full when they leave here.”

The Main Road deli, which has been open in the building since 1963, also features a butcher shop with hearty cuts of meat like marinated turkey London broil and a grocery market. Sepia photos of the building in the 1930s hang on its wall and are a nod to the 200-year-old structure’s history.

Wayside Market is located at 55575 Main Road in Southold.
