Reader Annemarie Van Hemmen of New Suffolk snapped these pics of this family of five ospreys nesting near her home last week.
“For the past six years that I have lived on the North Fork this nest had twins. This year triplets,” she said. “[It’s] quite chaotic now that besides the parents flying, two out of three are attempting to fly.”
Once considered an endangered species, the bird’s condition was upgraded from “threatened” to “special concern” in 1999, according to the state Department of Environmental Conservation.
