BARBARA ELLEN KOCH PHOTO | Brewmaster Dan Burke in Long Ireland’s tasting room will be pouring chocolate porter ale.

Long Ireland Brewing Company just tapped a keg of its chocolate porter and the dark brown brew is available while supplies last. When the malt-forward porter was put on tap in February at the Riverhead brewery’s tasting room it was well-received among all those who tried it, the brewery’s co-founder Greg Martin said.

“To get that chocolate flavor some of it comes from the malted barley that we use, but we also use what’s called cocoa nibs which are the roasted beginnings of chocolate before it becomes actual chocolate. Then we aged it for about a week and a half on cocoa nibs,” Martin told northforker when the beer was first released.

Long Ireland is located 817 Pulaski St, Riverhead. (map it). The tasting room will be open from 1 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, July 5 and Sunday, July 6.
