East End Arts will host the juried, all-media art show “Composition” this summer, a showcase of artists with a command of this fundamental element of good art.

EEA will hold a reception to kick off the show from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, June 20th at the Riverhead gallery. Refreshments will be served and the event is open to the public.

There were 300 entries and 42 were chosen for the show by guest juror Eric Brown, artist and co-owner of Tibor de Nagy Gallery in New York City, according to gallery director Jane Kirkwood.

“He picked a little of everything: from painting to photography and even quilts. A powerful abstract painting got ‘Best in Show,’” Kirkwood said. “I can’t think of any genre he didn’t consider. From collages, watercolors, oils, marble dust on canvas and even innocent art. ”

The awards went to: Best of Show, “Untitled(14)” by Ivan Kustura of Southampton; First Place, photograph on canvas by Anna Fleury of West Babylon; Second Place “Triple A with W” by Jim Gemake of Watermill; and Third Place “Parental Guidance Required” by Scott O’Hare of Baiting Hollow.

The art work will be on display until August 1st. EEA is located at 113 E. Main St. in Riverhead.
