If you plan on checking out Duck Pond Day on North Country Road in Wading River this Sunday, May 18, we suggest working up an appetite beforehand: North Fork Bacon & Smokehouse and Greenport Harbor Brewery will team up from noon to 4 p.m. that day to sell succulent barbecue and ice-cold beer.

Patrick Gaeta, owner and executive chef of North Fork Bacon & Smokehouse, said his restaurant will offer visitors a limited menu of pulled pork and chicken, brisket sliders, ribs, hot dogs, hamburgers, fries, pickle chips and funnel cakes outside his North Country Road eatery — all of which can be washed down with a cup of hoppy goodness from soon-to-open Greenport Harbor Brewing Company in Peconic.

“I’ve been involved in the planning and preparation for Duck Pond Day for over 10 years,” said Mr. Gaeta, a Wading River native. North Fork Bacon & Smokehouse launched last month. “It’s a great feeling to have our own store down there now, supporting the community and bringing some life back to downtown Wading River.”

Of course, good food and brews aren’t the only things Duck Pond Day has to offer: the Wading River Historical Society will host its annual craft fair Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. More than 20 vendors will be there selling goods on the grounds of the historical society, said Sid Bail, the organization’s president.

“It’s a nice, small town kind of experience,” Mr. Bail said. “You can usually expect people to leave with a big smile on their face.”
