Every Saturday in Sag Harbor, vendors pop trunks full of herbs, olive oils, wines, fresh seafood, pastries, bread, and sorbet for the weekly farmers market.

The Sag Harbor Farmers Market, celebrating its 11th year in 2014, is now open every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of Bay and Burke Street.

Vendors this year will include Blue Duck Bakery, Arlotta Food Studio, Amagansett Sea Salt Co., Anke’s Fit Bakery, A Taste of the North Fork, Good Water Farms, Sorbabe’s Sorbet, Gula-Gula Empanada, Horman’s Best Pickles, Le Poeme, Merken Fisheries, Open Minded Organics, Pierpoint Blossom Farm, The Seafood Shop, Southampton Soaps, Sweet’tauk Lemonade, Under the Willow Organics, and Wolffer Estates Vineyards.

New to the market this year is Nuna Knits, which makes hand spun knits and garments produced from farm animal fur and wool. Nuna Knits’ Peggie Ehlers noted that as a vendor it is difficult to get into the market because of its stress on homemade, non-manufactured goods. But she is honored to be a part of it.

“I like to give people knowledge of my products because it changes the way they buy,” she said

The strict application process helps support unique local businesses, according to market director Jean Gual.

“It protects local North and South fork farms and businesses while highlighting our sustainability,” she said.

The philosophy is not lost on customers like Barbara Meyer who said she subscribes to the belief that without local farmers, we wouldn’t have anything to eat.

“I come here to support local farmers and organic food products,” she said.

The Sag Harbor Market will be open on Saturdays from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. through October 25.
