You might need a compass, map of the stars and an excellent GPS to find Long Island’s 15 best-hidden eateries, but the hunt is well worth it.

Perhaps it’s because they’re all located alongside North Fork waterways, but four of the 15 restaurants are in Riverhead Town, according to a list published by Newsday’s Explore LI.

Turkuaz Grill off East Main Street in Riverhead, La Plage on Creek Road in Wading River, Joe’s Garage and Grill on Peconic Avenue in Riverhead and the nearly impossible to find Farm Country Kitchen on West Main Street in Riverhead all made the cut.

Most locals could find any of these four spots with their eyes closed (who hasn’t struggled to look for a parking spot at Farm Country Kitchen during the lunch rush?) so the list seems aimed at out-of-towners.

The most complex directions lead to La Plage, which fronts Wading River Beach. To find it Newsday advises to take the “Long Island Expressway exit 68 for William Floyd Parkway to Wading River. County Route 46 merges with the parkway. Keep right to reach Route 25A. Turn left onto Randall Road, right on North Country Road, left on Sound Avenue, right on Creek Road to the beach. La Plage will be on your left.”
