Tap the kegs and break out the pint glasses, the suds are about to flow in Peconic.
Greenport Harbor Brewing Co. has set July 12 as the date for its grand opening party at its much-anticipated Main Road tasting room. Tickets will cost $20 and include one free beer. The festivities will run from 3 until 8 p.m. and feature food trucks, live music and brewery tours.
The day also marks the fifth anniversary of the company, which currently operates in Greenport Village.
The opening date is pending approvals from the Southold Town Planning Board and Zoning Board of Appeals.
Co-owner Rich Vandenburgh said it’s been a long road, but he and partner John Liegey have been propelled by their supporters and the dream of what the new facility could be.
“It’s hard to put into words. There were some dark frustrating days, but it’s exciting now to see all the dots connect,” Vandenburgh said. “It’s looking like the vision we had for it.”
The new brewery will allow Greenport Harbor to eventually produce over 55,000 barrels of beer per year. Its current facility on Carpenter Street in Greenport maxes out around 3,000. They’ll start out somewhere in between, producing about 10,000 barrels per year, according to Liegey.
The original tasting room on Carpenter Street in Greenport will remain open.
There are plans to serve food at the Peconic location, though that likely will not come to fruition until 2015, Vandenburgh said.
