Bella Gusto is among the most unassuming tasty restaurants on the North Fork. It’s just about the most affordable too.

An eight-table restaurant attached to a pizza place in Wading River, it’s easy to understand why you might have missed it. But try it one weeknight and you just might become a regular.

Soon after owner and all-around nice guy Scott McMillan first opened Bella Gusto in 2005 he made all entrees buy one, get one free with the purchase of any two drinks (soft drinks included) Sunday through Thursday for a month.

The special was so effective in bringing folks out to his restaurant that he’s kept the deal in place ever since.

Last week my wife and I ordered the chicken parmesan and cappellini Angelina dinners, a glass of wine and and an iced tea and were handed a bill for under $30. The complimentary toasted olive bread is a nice way to kick off the meal.

It’s a very casual place with friendly service and really good Italian food — the specials are always worth listening to — that will cost you half of what you’ll pay elsewhere on a weeknight. The retsaurant space is open from 4 to 9 p.m., but the pizza place opens for lunch at 11 a.m.

If you’re looking for low key and inexpensive, this is a spot worth checking out.
