There is more to March Madness than basketball, especially here on the North Fork, where wine tasting has become as much a pastime as watching college basketball.

Paying tribute to the “madness,” Empire State Cellars is hosting a month-long wine bracket to narrow down the best riesling produced in New York State. The Sweet 16 Riesling Tournament, which started on Feb. 22, is now in its second round.

“So far Race Riesling from Greg Gove and Ravines Riesling have advanced to the final four,” the folks at Empire State Cellars said.

The second round of the challenge is Saturday, March 8 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Empire State Cellars, 308 Tanger Mall Drive (next to the food court in Tanger 1) in Riverhead. (Map it)

The second round will feature sweet and dry reisling.

The Final 4 of Reisling Madness is scheduled for Saturday, March 22.

Help them crown a winner for $15, which includes a sampling of the remaining contenders.

Reservations are required. Please call 631-369-3080 to register.
