A Cutchogue couple is turning their longtime hobby into a business — opening a new high-end cigar shop on Main Street in Cutchogue tomorrow.
North Fork Cigars & Fine Gifts will carry more than 100 types of premium cigars including high quality imported brands such as Zino, Acid, Padron, Camacho Arturo Fuente, and Romeo and Juliet.
For owners Todd and Rachel Johnson, it was passion for quality cigars that led them to branch out from their other business, Peconic Energy Corp, and open the shop. Their hobby began 12 years ago as a loving gesture when Rachel bought Todd — at the time, her boyfriend — a cigar set as a gift when they first started dating.
“It became something fun that we did together and it grew from there,” she said.
A Mattituck native Ms. Johnson said Cutchogue was ideal location for their retail store. The couple lives just a mile away from the Main Street shop, which is also the former location of the their accountant Scott Hunzinger’s office.
“We were looking for a place for a couple of years and when this opened up, we thought it was perfect,” Ms. Johnson said. “There is great food, wineries and people in Cutchogue.”
North Fork Cigars will offer a full line of travel humidors and all sizes of humidors for collectors, as well as a wide selection of cigar accessories including Brizard cigar cases, Laguiole De Aubrac hand-forged knives, and Visol ashtrays.
Mr. Johnson will also be hand-making and selling customizable pens, another hobby of his, Ms. Johnson said. The shop will offer free butane lighter refills with a purchase of a cigar and they are considering creating a cigar of the month club.
North Fork Cigars & Fine Gifts, located at 28100 Main Road, is celebrating its grand opening on Saturday at 10 a.m.
