In a story meeting this week, one of our staffers suggested we do a post on the top Zagat rated restaurants on the North Fork. In theory, that would be a perfect northforker post.
This is not that post.
As we researched it, we were surprised to see that several of the restaurants listed in a Zagat book we keep at the office were not featured on the website. Confused, we decided to move on.
Since we still like the idea of presenting a local online restaurant review post — and because all bloggers love to write quick and easy list posts — we instead present our list of five useless but informative facts gleaned from reading online reviews of the best and most popular local restaurants.
(We threw in the free fact that not all local reviews appear on the Zagat website. You’re welcome!)
1. With 123 reviews, Farm Country Kitchen in Riverhead is the most reviewed local restaurant on Yelp. It gets four out of five stars. Bonus tip: Turkuaz Grill gets the highest rating in Riverhead.
2. Of the local restaurants that appear on the local Zagat.com map, North Fork Table and Inn in Southold gets the best score for food and service, and the Jamesport Manor Inn has the top score for decor. North Fork Table’s food score is tied for best on Long Island.
3. The most popular North Fork restaurants on urbanspoon by price category are as follows: Fine Dining — North Fork Table and Inn (93%, 78 votes); Higher Priced — Noah’s in Greenport (89%, 67 votes); Moderately Priced — Love Lane Kitchen in Mattituck (93%, 104 votes); and Cheap Eats — RoadHouse Brick Oven Pizza in Riverhead (89 percent, 115 votes).
4. The Jedediah Hawkins Inn in Jamesport has the best rating (4.5 out of 5 stars) on Open Table — and you can make a reservation straight from the site.
5. Gayot.com’s picks for 10 hot spots to dine on Long Island, includes two Riverhead Town restaurants: The Riverhead Project in downtown Riverhead and Grana in Jamesport.
