There’s something about getting on that ferry to Shelter Island that I just love.

Even when I’m headed there for work, I still get this feeling of being on vacation.

I always get out and walk around the deck. I’ll check out the boats in the water around us, and observe the homes and businesses along the Greenport and Shelter Island waterfronts.

The Island is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful places on the East End, and the boat ride over is among my favorite parts of the journey.

The ride back home? Well, that’s a different story.

Here’s a few winter shots from a recent ride aboard the North Ferry. It’s not the same as actually being there, but it can hopefully help get you excited for the next trip.
