The craft beer industry is taking off on the North Fork. Within five years, four local breweries have grown from home operations and Kickstarter funds to fully established businesses right in our own backyard. Most of those brewers will tell you their success is built on a labor of love. The concept is explored in author in Tom Acitelli’s new book, “The Audacity of Hops:  The History of America’s Craft Beer Revolution.”

On Friday, Mr. Acitelli will walk you through the craft beer revolution, all while tasting local brews and sampling pub-type fare during “Craft Beer: A Love Story,” an event at Jedediah Hawkins Inn in Jamesport Friday. Enjoy an evening learning about the distinct styles of craft beers and the passions and palates behind them at one of the historic inn’s cooler attractions, the authentic speakeasy, located downstairs.”

Guests will receive a signed copy of Tom’s book (one per couple).

The event is the third and final of the Inn’s “Sessions in the Speakeasy,” workshop led by some of the best, most approachable experts in their fields. The workshops are a nod to the wealth of high-quality wine, beer and spirits made on Long Island’s East End. Sessions feature locally made products served with a locally sourced signature tasting menu prepared by the Inn’s executive chef, Richard Kanowsky.

The class runs from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Jedediah Hawkins Inn, 400 South Jamesport Avenue in Jamesport.

The cost is $95 for the event.
