The James Beard Foundation announced Wednesday that Gerry Hayden, chef and co-owner at Southold’s North Fork Table & Inn, is a semifinalist in the category “Best chef in the Northeast” for its 2014 Chef and Restaurant Awards.
This is the fourth consecutive year Mr. Hayden has earned a nomination from the prestigious James Beard Foundation, which was founded in 1986 and is named after television personality and cookbook author James Beard.
Winners will be announced May 5 in a ceremony at Lincoln Center in New York City.
On Sunday, Mr. Hayden will be presented with the first-ever “Slow Food East End Carlo Petrini Award” during an event in his honor at Kontokosta Winery in Greenport.
Mr. Hayden, who grew up in Setauket, was diagnosed with ALS, commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, in 2011. Since then, a number of fundraisers have been held in his honor to support ALS research and help provide quality-of-life care for the lauded chef, including Sunday’s event.
