GRANT PARPAN PHOTO | You say Star Confectionery, I say Papa Nick’s. It’s all the same.

The words “our famous” on a menu are usually a clue that that particular food item is worth ordering.

At Papa Nick’s, which you might know as Star Confectionery in downtown Riverhead, you’ll see “our famous” french toast on the menu.

That, my friends, is what we here at northforker call a signature dish.

It’s $6 — add the bacon for another $3 and enjoy having breakfast at the colorful Main Street eatery.

Added bonus: You’ll be treated to some great banter — “You hear about A-Rod?” — from Anthony Meras behind the counter and the locals sitting in the booths around you. Here’s what Anthony said about his relationship with the customers at the Riverhead Chamber of Commerce holiday dinner in 2012.  “My parents taught me … you take an interest in your customer,” he said before rattling off the regular breakfast, lunch and ice cream orders of a few of the guests at the event.
