Much like his predecessor, the new president of the Long Island Wine Council hails from Jamesport.
Sal Diliberto, owner of Diliberto Winery on Manor Lane, was introduced in his new role at the Live on the Vine Long Island Winterfest kickoff event at the Suffolk Theater Friday night.
Mr. Diliberto and his wife Maryann planted their first vines in Long Island Wine Country in 1998. Their winery pays homage to their Italian heritage. The design of the tasting room resembles a small piazza in Italy.

Past president Ron Goerler Jr. of Jamesport Vineyards said he plans to stay involved with the Wine Council and he’ll remain as event chair for Harvest East End, which he said will return to McCall Wines in Cutchogue this August.
Long Island Wine Council executive director Steve Bate said he was also pleased to announce that two new officers were joining the board this year: Tom Rosicki of Sparkling Pointe in Southold and Alie Shaper of Brooklyn Oenology in Williamsburg.
