• At Alex Ferrone Photography Gallery in Cutchogue, the “Small Works, Big Gifts” exhibit has been extended through Feb. 9. The show features work by 21 award-winning photographers.

• East End Arts in Riverhead is very busy at the start of a new year:

• Applications are being accepted for the JumpstART Professional Development Program, a series of workshops for artists of all disciplines. A limited number of applicants will be accepted into the program “dedicated to the business side of art,” according to a press release. Along with attending workshops, participants will have the chance to design and implement a public art project in downtown Riverhead this summer.

Workshops and programs include orientation on March 6; “Artist Career Building,” March 16; “Legal Matters for Artists,” March 23; “Marketing, Social Networking, Websites,” April 6; “Fundraising, Proposal Writing, Kickstarter Campaign,” April 26; public presentation of project, May 20. The public art project will run from Aug. 24 to Sept. 7. All workshops are mandatory. There is a $100 fee. The submission deadline for the online application is 11:59 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31. Ryan Mancini of Riverhead is the recipient of the Paul Sisson Memorial Fund’s 2013 music scholarship, which was created by Friends of Riverhead Free Library in association with East End Arts. Ryan, a ninth-grader at Riverhead High School, is a singer as well as an accomplished saxophonist. He also plays piano and electric bass as part of the music ministry at First Baptist Church of Riverhead. At East End Arts School he studies jazz piano. While at Riverhead Middle School, Ryan played alto saxophone in the concert band, scored 99 out of 100 on Level 5 NYSSMA solos for both saxophone and voice, played baritone sax in the jazz band and performed with the show choir. He also received the Music Directors Award for musicianship and leadership two years in a row. Ryan has played parts in musicals presented by Riverhead Faculty & Community Theatre and Middle Masques, and he recently placed second in the Riverhead Idol competition. In the academic realm, he was president of the National Junior Honor Society in middle school.

Dorian Joseph, an eighth-grader at Southampton Intermediate School, has received the 2013 Frances Ligon Memorial Scholarship. Dorian, a student at East End Arts School, plays viola with his school string program. At East End Arts School, he studies viola with Nicholas Orifici and drums with Stan Wright. He played with EEA’s summer student orchestra and was principal drummer at EEA’s summer music camp for the past two years.

Call for artists: Work is sought for East End Arts’ nonjuried, all media annual Members Show, which will be on view Jan. 24 to March 7 at the Riverhead gallery. The show’s theme is “The Muse.” Gallery director Jane Kirkwood said the muse is “the spirit that feels present when you create effortlessly and that seems to be missing when you are creatively ‘stuck.’ ” The umbrella theme for all 2014 exhibits is “The Creative Process.” Entries will be accepted Thursday to Saturday, Jan. 16 to 18, at the EEA gallery. All artists must be or become members of East End Arts. Participation is guaranteed to all entrants. Each may submit one work, with a maximum size of 14 inches wide and 65 inches high, including frame. Call for artists: Alex Ferrone Photography Gallery seeks work for its first juried exhibition, ‘Music in Images,’ which will be judged by Esperanza León of Solar Contemporary Art/Design in East Hampton.
