Comic book enthusiasts are invited to Sherwood House Vineyards in Jamesport this Saturday afternoon (Dec. 21), where author and part-time Southold resident Laurence Maslon will be on hand at 3 p.m. to sign copies of his new book “Superheroes: Capes, Cowls, and the Creation of Comic Book Culture.”

Mr. Maslon, who teaches the graduate acting program at New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts, recently sat down with the The Suffolk Times for a Q&A about the book, which is a full-color companion piece to the three-part PBS documentary “Superheroes: A Never-Ending Battle” that aired in October.

The book, which Mr. Maslon co-authored with Michael Kantor, traces the history of comic book culture from its start in 1938 with the birth of Superman to its formidable presence today as a multi-billion dollar industry.
