• “Alterations,” an exhibit featuring work by photographers Carolyn Conrad and Sandi Daniel, will be on view Nov. 8 to Dec. 15 at Alex Ferrone Photography Gallery & Studio in Cutchogue. An artists’ reception will be held Friday, Nov. 8, from 6 to 8 p.m. Ms. Conrad, of Sag Harbor, creates rural scenes using clay and wood, then photographs them in natural light. Ms. Daniel combines traditional and contemporary techniques and mediums to reinvent the image “into an alternate reality.”
• Learn how to extract color from natural materials at “Dyed in the Wool,” a demonstration of natural dyeing and spinning, between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at The Sirens’ Song Gallery in Greenport. The event is co-sponsored by Oysterponds Historical Society and held in conjunction with Taste North Fork, a weekend of events aimed at promoting the area.
Ellen Zimmerman, Jean Walters, Sherry Schreiber and Drianne Benner will give the demonstrations, using materials such as marigolds and zinnias, local wildflowers, fermented lichen, exotic wood dust and walnut husks. Guests will be able to try spinning and weaving. All ages are welcome.
• The Alex Ferrone Photography Gallery will host a weekend of artist talks in conjunction with Taste North Fork.
Saturday, Nov. 9: Jamesport artist Charles Wildbank will discuss photorealism at 11 a.m., followed at 1 p.m. by a talk by Greenport studio owner Hector deCordova on photo-referencing in painting.
Sunday, Nov. 10: Fine art photographer Alex Vignoli will discuss photomontage at noon and 3 p.m., and Jim Sabiston, also a fine art photographer, will discuss “Fine Art iPhoneography” at 1:30. Each artist will have work on display.
• Poetica Ensemble, a new string quartet, will give a free concert at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9, at Cutchogue Presbyterian Church. The concert is sponsored by the Douglas Moore Festival Committee, which commemorates the work of the Cutchogue composer, and the Long Island Composers Alliance.
The quartet features violinist Song-A Cho, who founded the group, violinist Christina Perro-Willis, violist Christopher Shaughnessy and cellist Stephanie Iovine. The program will include music by Douglas Moore, Marga Richter, Laurence Dresner, George Cork Maul and Ludwig van Beethoven.
• A group exhibit, “ART4YOU,” will be on view Nov. 9 to Dec. 21 at Floyd Memorial Library in Greenport. The show features work from the ART4YOU workshop/studio of New Suffolk artist Garance. Her art will be joined by that of fellow workshop artists Colleen Grattan-Arnoff, Lisa Baglivi, Dusty Bowl, Pat Feiler and Mary Trentalange. The workshop “provides a nonjudgmental, creative and inspiring studio environment for artists of all mediums,” according to a press release. An opening reception is set for 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 9.
• Call for artists: Work is sought for the seventh annual ‘10×10=100’ art show and sale to benefit North Fork Environmental Council. The show will be hosted by The South Street Gallery in Greenport, where boards of cradled birch plywood are available. Artists may submit up to three pieces in any medium. The first board is free; two additional boards may be purchased for $7 each.
The submission deadline is Nov. 24. A preview will be held Friday, Dec. 6, with the sale beginning Dec. 7. Each piece will be sold for $100, with proceeds split among the gallery, the artist and NFEC. Call 631-477-0021.
