Lena Dunham and crew made a splash when they hit the North Fork this summer to shoot some scenes for season three of the hit HBO show “Girls,” and a new promo video released by HBO appears to include shots of Greenport and East Marion. Watch the video below.
Back in June, “Girls” executive producer Ilene Landress told northforker.com that “Lena came out [to East Marion] last summer to visit our director [Jesse Peretz, who owns a home in Greenport] and really liked the North Fork, so she thought, ‘Let’s shoot an episode here,’” Landress said. The series also filmed in downtown Greenport.
In the behind-the-scenes featurette 27-year-old Dunham, the show’s creator and star, offers viewers a glimpse of what to expect in season three. Some highlights: her character, Hannah, is back in a relationship with Adam [Adam Driver] and has, Dunham says, “sort of managed to find footing with her book editor [John Cameron Mitchell].
Marnie [Allison Williams], meanwhile, is working at Ray’s [Alex Karpovsky] coffee shop and “manically grieving,” Dunham says, after being abruptly dumped at the beginning of season three by her on-again, off-again boyfriend Charlie [Christopher Abbott, who decided to leave the hit show last year].
On the other hand, Jessa [Jemima Kirke] is back: the free spirit, who inexplicably left Hannah alone at a train station last season, is ready to “kick up some dust,” Kirke says. Elijah [Andrew Rannells], Hannah’s gay ex-boyfriend and former roommate, will also reappear.
As for the quirky, endearingly neurotic Shoshanna [Zosia Mamet], she’s now embracing a less-than-virginal lifestyle: “She’s made an active decision to be reckless, specifically sexually,” Mamet says.
The third season of “Girls” premieres Jan. 12 on HBO.
