Ready. Set. Sail.
The competition will be on at the Greenport Classic Yacht Regatta this Saturday Sept 21 (welcoming party Friday Sept. 20). One of the Maritime Festival’s longest standing events, it draws dozens of wooden boats to partake in the 15-mile race around Gardiner’s Bay.
The event is hosted by the non-profit group Sail Greenport whose mission is to reestablish the village as a sailing center and attract sailors and their boats from all over the East Coast.
The race is also a part of WoodenBoat Magazine’s WoodenBoat Regatta Series.
To start the weekend event, there will be a welcoming party Friday evening to greet all participating yachts at Preston’s Dock at the foot of South Main Street in Greenport at 8:30 p.m.
The Regatta is scheduled to start Saturday at 11 a.m., also at Preston’s Dock.
An awards presentation and party will be held Saturday night on the observation deck of the Mitchell Park Marina on Front Street starting at 8:30 p.m.
