Survival races are a relatively new fitness trend, but the fun far outweighs the effort.
If you think you have what it takes to run/crawl through mud and climb/jump over obstacles, now is your chance to sign up for the next Long Island 5K Obstacle Race, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7 at the Dorothy P. Flint 4-H Camp, located at 3186 Sound Avenue in Riverhead.
The 3.1-mile obstacle course is touted as exercise in disguise and is so much fun it promises to turn even the most seasoned couch potato into an outdoor adventure junkie.
During the last Riverhead-based survival race in May, more than 4,000 runners signed up to overcome a series of obstacles, including mud pits, to finish the 5K run.
The cost is $79 for early sign up online or $85 the day of the event.
